In his book "The Road to Berlin" John Erickson says that in late March of 1945, General Pliev's "1st Guards Cavalry Mechanized Group", which included "two cavalry divisions, six tank and two SP-gun regiments, all amounting to 83 tanks and 63 SP guns" attacked across the Hron (Gran) and then the Neutra (Nitra) rivers in Slovakia. Is this information correct and accurate? I read somewhere else that by late 1945 Pliyev commanded the 1st Guards Cavalry Corps with three cavalry divisons (with 1 tank regiment each) and 1 SU regiment. I am confused and would be happy for some help to know which order or battle is correct and also the units and their tank and SP strength at that time.

Re: Pliev's 1st Guards Cavalry Group at Neutra 1945
Erickson take info about group's composition from Soviet official history of WWII, volume 10, p. 209 (in history told about cavalry corpses, not divisions)
But...
On 1st April 1945 Pliev's 1st Guards Cavalry Mechanized Group included:
4th Gds. Cavalry Corps (9th Gds, 10th Gds, 30th cavalry divisions, 1815th SP regiment)
6th Gds. Cavalry Corps (8th Gds, 13th Gds, 8th cavalry divisions, 1813th SP regiment)
In 53th Army (together with which Group operated) was only one 25th separated tank regiment, in 7th Gds Army - 27th Gds tank brigade, in front's reserve - 4th Gds Mech. Corps
Total front's tank and SP strength - ~240.

There is no waste, there are reserves (Slogan of German Army in World Wars)

Thank you, Paul. That clears up my confusion about Pliev's Cavalry Mechanised Group.
