Czarist officer guides?
I would like to have information about officer guides from the Czarist Era. I suppose there were published officer guides, weren't there? I have only been able to find Soviet ones. Have they ever been published in English. I'd like to read an Imperial army officer's guide.
I have several books on Imperial Russia, and each regiment seems to have been run severely and with their own traditions. How differently were Imperial Russian regiments lead?

You can download one officer guide from 1916 here: http://turbobit.net/w220qnibqh4j.html
As for the specific regimental guides - I've never seen them. Historical notes of the regimental past - yes, but not guides about particular regiment's service.

Doesn't "soveti" refer to "soviet" (council)?

Indeed, "soviet" = "council". But "soviet" also means "counsel" or "advice" - and it were those terms used in the title of the file and book itself.Balrog wrote: No, there was no Soviet union in 1916; however, the title of the file is:

Thank you, Eugen.

I suggest you to visit the Russian WWI historians and re-enactors forum at http://1914.borda.ru/ and post your inquiry there. Undoubtedly you will get responce. I guess that a number of such books should be already available online.
