Soviet War Dead 1941-45 (1,000)
Military Losses
Killed in Action 5,227

Died of wounds 1,104
Died of illness 267
Missing/Pow (net) (Krivosheev pp. 161-218 ) 3,058

Total population Loss per ADK 26,616
The key understanding the figure for the missing net 3,058k is to take a total from English edition of Krivosheev of the missing per the fronts, independent armies and fleets pp.164-213. 4,427K less the released POW p.237 (1,369k). Note well Krivosheev on p. 208 excludes the losses of the flotillas. His numbers add down to 8.668 k irrecoverable losses, but the died of wounds and NKVD forces are excluded. My figure of 11,652K military dead agrees to the ADK balance and a reconciliation of the conscripted. All the figures are straight from English edition of Krivosheev

Re: Krivosheev corrected
I am not asserting that the balance of 11.652k military war dead is correct. I am saying that the figures presented by Krivosheev add up to that total if we correct his errors. It could have been a case of sheer stupidity on his part or the use of Russian Маскировка. IMO Maskirovka was used to justify the official balance of 8,668,400 war dead. I believe the actual correct figure of Soviet war dead will never be known.
