What happened to these Naval Units after Odessa
What happened to these Naval Units after Odessa
From what I found only the 421st marine division and the 3rd Naval Rifle brigade was at Odessa during its defense. I do not know of any other Naval marine units. Could anyone tell me what happened to these units after Odessa? Does anyone know if they were reformed into different units? and did any of them end up fighting later at Belgrade or Prague? Thanks
Re: What happened to these Naval Units after Odessa
There was never 421 Marine Division. 421 Rifle Division aka Odessa division aka Malakhov's group was an improvised formation composed of various cuts and pieces including some Navy elements. The division was disbanded in November 1941 in Crimea.
3 Marine Brigade was formed by the Baltic Fleet and operated against Finns in Ladoga Karelia for 3 years till the summer of 1944

Hi Art, The 3rd marine infantry brigade you are talking about was in the north. However the one I am talking about I believe is the 3rd Marine rifle brigade which landed at Grigarievka and Chebankel according to one of the books on Odessa. This is one of the units I am looking for.
Re: What happened to these Naval Units after Odessa
You are talking about 3 Marine Regiment then. The unit was destroyed at Sevastopol in the summer of 1942

Art, Thank You for the info. So if their was any survivors from Odessa they would have been put into other units. Do you know any of the Naval Marine units that would have been involved in the liberation of Belgrade ? Also in the liberation of Prague? Also was their any Marine Guards units involved? Thanks
