Use of tank regiments in mechanised brigades.

Hi

trying to put a scenario together and need little help understanding how certain units would be allocated. A mid 44 soviet mechanised bride has its infantry regiments and the tank regiment. Would it be normal for the tank regiment to be kept in one piece or allocated out to the infantry ? Was there a doctrine or was it a case of whatever seemed right at the time.

Similarly for a tank brigade, was the infantry component kept together as a battalion or broken up between the tank units?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It depends. In general it was quite typical to have infantry companies distributed by tank battalions. Most typically, each of three infantry companies attached to one of tank battalions, riding tanks or providing close security at halts. But not a universal rule.

Again, depends on situation. I guess, you can encounter both options.

Also reconnaissance patrols or security posts were normally detached by units, they could include small groups of tanks (2 or 3 or sometimes more).
