Myths and Legends of the Eastern Front

#1

Post by Carl Schwamberger » 02 Feb 2020, 00:08

Anyone able to comment on this book? Written by B Sokokov & translated by R Harrison. It analyzes 13 aspects of the German Soviet War. Some of the material I have been familiar with for decades. Other item I skimmed are new, to me at least.

Soliciting opinions on the book usefulness.

Thanks

Skimming a few pages the narrative looks 'professional'. As someone who has read title on the eastern front it might make more sense from the perspective of 2020 to read this first.

It's funny, Sokolov is mythmaker himself.

Mr Sokolov has a reputation, basically if you find some old time Soviet propaganda, then turn them upside down, then you would pretty much get the things he writes

For individuals who are interested in the history of the German-Soviet War and seeking an in-depth examination of various facets of the conflict, "Myths and Legends of the Eastern Front" may be a helpful source.

Thanks. This seems to illustrate one of the difference between studying Soviet & Western history.
