Soviet air surveillance radars in northern front in 1944?

#1

I am looking for information about Soviet air surveillance network in front against Finland in 1944. The area of interest is Kantalahti – Kiestinki – Uhtua – Louhi region. Attached pls. find a sample chart dated on July 11.1944, showing air surveillance radars in Aunus isthmus east from lake Ladoga. Any help in this issue would be appreciated.

Are you sure there were air surveillance radars?

Here is a build from 2 VA that shows an air surveillance radar (the triangle with mast SW 10 IAvK).

Look at the relevant documents (like the 324 IAvD) and they will say the interceptions were based on 'RUS-X' information. 'RUS' are the mobile radar stations and X a number (RUS-2 is what I usually see).

Note does anyone have a key for Soviet signal diagrams?

Thanks Jeff,
Not sure there were air surveillance radars in Louhi and Alakurtti region in 1944, but because of heavy german air fighter and bomber traffic, there probably were radar station in Murmansk region in Sept. Oct. 1944. I need to dig deeper to a report of Soviet 7. Air Army.

I finally found the name of one RUS-2 unit with the 2 VA (1 Ukrainian Front): 144 Отде́льная взвода ВНОС (144 Separate Platoon VNOS). I was surprised it was such a small unit but your radars might be hidden among the VNOS units.

Gentlemen, thank you for the replies. Now I have an understanding what kind of technology was used for Soviet air surveillance radars. It might be difficult to find any documents showing the locations of Soviet mobile radars in northern front in 1944.
