Bombardement of Leningrad may 24 1942
Does anyone know what happened during the German bombardment on may 24 1942, in Kronstadt.
I believe some of the Baltic fleet were targets, damaging some uboats...
Air raid? What kind of plane? etc.

May? There was an aerial and artillery strike on Leningrad known as operation "Götz von Berlichingen" on 24 April 1942.
According to "Cronicle of the Great Patriotic War at Baltic Sea.." only reconaissance flights were registered near Kronstadt and Leningrad on 24 May.

As Art said, heavy air-raids targeting the navy on April: they intended to finish the job of September 1941 raids but while they inflicted some damages, they failed to fully eliminate the fleet, here the main points i gathered:
4 April: more than an hundred of bombers: cruiser Kirov damaged (and civilian casualties in nearby residential area) with one He-111 damaged on landing back at the base.
24 April: thee further hits on cruiser Kirov with heavy casualties. 3 LaGG fighters lost while attempting to repel the attack. 1 Ju-87 crashed while flying back to German lines (likely due ground flak or destroyer Silnyi defensive fire) and 3 others damaged.
27 April: training ship Svir sunk. 1 Ju-87 shot down (either ground flak or defensive fire from cruiser Maxim Gorky, that claimed two planes).
I am sure other vessels suffered various degree of damages and some also lost, but overhall the biggest damage/casualties in April raids was on cruiser Kirov. I think also some submarines suffered damages (just going by memory) but none as total-loss.

Just made a check, possibly you read of the damage suffered by submarine L-21 on 24 May 1942 by ground artillery.
At the time the submarine was unfinished (but nearly completed), got a direct hit with flooding and touching bottom. No casualties reported.
She was lifted on 8 June and and also thanks the damage, entered service only in August 1943 to begin battle operation in summer 1944.
It turned to be one of the most valuable submarines of the Baltic Fleet being a minelayer and provided a good score of successes in her final campaigns (among the others, sinking with mines 2 torpedo boats and an u-boat, effectively the best individual success among soviet subs. against warships).

Yep, i was referring to the L-21...
Thanks, then it was ground artillery that inflicted the damage.

You need to find and translate 2 articles of A. Latkin in Gangut magazine (Nrs. 114 and 115). They are about L-21 with many facts drawn directly from documents.
