Although largest in number russian army lacked equipment, food and other provisions, and add complete Soviet disregard to human life (i.e. sending a squad of 100 soldiers armed w/30 rifles at m34 machine gun emplacement) the casualties were the biggest and because Stalin executed 70% of experoienced commanders just as war was about to start - the worst organized at the initial years of war
