Uniform Piping Question

Post by Tim » 02 Apr 2024 12:15

Hi all,

Just wondering if someone could tell me what the correct cap and tunic pipings that would have been worn for each posting of the following Wehrmacht officer:

28.08.39 to 12.11.1940, Artillerie Regiment 211, Hauptmann, Batterie-Fuehrer
12.11.1940 to 15.09.1942, Armee Ober-Kommando 6, Hauptmann/Major, Kommandant des Hauptquartiers
15.09.1942 to 06.1944, Feldkommandantur 660, Major, Major beim Stabe
02.1945 to 30.03.1945, Wehrkreis XII, Major

Thanks for the link Tom. Could someone help to apply the waffenfarbe chart to the above positions. At what level are these applied? First posting, for example, deep red piping for artillery or white because the 211 artillery regiment was part of the 211 infantry division. Or is it to do with position, as an artillery officer red, had he been a medical doctor in the artillery regiment, blue. What about the other assignments?

Hello Tim :
28.08.39 to 12.11.1940, Artillerie Regiment 211, Hauptmann, Batterie-Fuehrer
Waffenfarbe bright red.
red piping for artillery or white because the 211 artillery regiment was part of the 211 infantry division.
Not. Waffenfarbe bright red.
Or is it to do with position, as an artillery officer red, had he been a medical doctor in the artillery regiment, blue.
That's right.
12.11.1940 to 15.09.1942, Armee Ober-Kommando 6, Hauptmann/Major, Kommandant des Hauptquartiers
15.09.1942 to 06.1944, Feldkommandantur 660, Major, Major beim Stabe
02.1945 to 30.03.1945, Wehrkreis XII, Major
Waffenfarbe white for Infantry Personnel, if there is no a colour with priority as in the previous example ( Medic, cavalry, engineer, etc )

That’s perfect, thanks von thoma. Looking at the pictures, he seems to have dark piping while commander of the 6 army staff headquarters. So I assume he wore the artillery piping for each of his later assignments because of his initial commission as an artillery officer.
