Waffen SS visor

I have been interested in purchasing this for $300. The guy who owns it was sold it as an original and does firmly believe the item is authentic.
Opinions please.

Yeah I saw this piece, to be quite honest if a guy is selling it for $300 dollars you should expect a repro. Ask the blokes who dwell in here for help, they know all about ss visors.

I believe that that is repro. The felt of the hat appears too much like East German stitching and quality, and I know that the cap insignia should be silver rather than gray. Look at the eagle's eye. Is it highly detailed? The Germans detailed the eye highly. Look at the RZM mark, does it look correct? I have seen original cap eagles with Zs that lack the mark, because the stamps are so small, but is the mark accurate? Also, I believe the inside of the eagle should be more detailed, since cap eagles were made of pressed tin or aluminum, stamped by a machine. Even most repros have this detailing. That's my 2 cents

SS visor

I don't like the piping on that cap. It seems much too thick and coarse. Collectors should be careful with Waffen SS color piped visor caps. Originals officer's visors were privately produced. They were free from all RZM control after February 1940. The Waffen SS were only authorized to wear colored waffenfarbe piping on caps from May 1940 through November 1940. The remainder of the war only white (company and field officers) and silver (general officers) piping was authorized. Sure the SS kept wearing the color piped visors they purchased, regulations are made to be broken. However they were only produced for a short time during the war. Not many originals were made and not many have survived. The reproducers have been rebuilding other branch service caps into Waffen SS caps for large profits for decades. Currently original SS caps sell for $3000 to $5000 with providance. Allgemeine SS originals are somewhat easier to identify than Waffen originals due to their standard construction techniques and use of various RZM labels/ stamping

As far as pricing goes you CAN NOT but an original skull and eagle set for $300.00, but there are lots of repros with bad RZM contract numbers available for that price. Beaver is coming out with a new book on SS headgear shortly. It would be a good investment for anyone interested in this area of Third Reich uniforms.

Hey Guys, I believe your right... in some things and the rest you need to read more books. I think the price says its a repo so I have taken your point and removed it off my items for sale. After contacting william I will be readvertising it at $1500 on a auction site or through the collector sales here in Australia.
As for the eagle and head, they are on sale for around $100 usd with written guarantee so if you are paying $300 then some one is getting ripped off.
I pass two show cases of nazi medals and badges every day and if bright and shiny means its good then I now wonder how much fake items are in your collections.. as most are a little dull or show signs of wear with the finer points worn off and if it is top of the range you pay top price.
By the way badges and medals are showing up out here with bits of cloth still attached..Little ray

that's not wear, those were never silver, always gray. And it looks like the eagle lacks detail on the chest and legs
