Sport Uniforms In Wear
You´re welcome, James.
I don´t know how common it was to have the SS enblem on sport capes. The authors of the book Third Reich Cloth Insignia mention that, besides sport vests and shirts, fencing jackets and driving overalls frequently carried the motif of the wearer´s branch of service.
Here´s an example of the SS racing driver Manstein wearing an overall with a 100mm wide circular cloth badge. Source: Third Reich Cloth Insignia by Brian L. Davis and Ian Westwell, p. 69 (2003).
Best regards,
Silke

Hi all,
I found this feature, regarding sports wear very interesting, One does come by these type of sports vests for sale. In actual fact, i have a HJ sports vest. The problem, as always is what is genuine or fake. Anyone can use a common vest and stick an insignia on it. My question is, how can one know for sure what he is buying if it is fake or real? What should one look for? O have come across a Police sports vest, like the one in SILKE photo, but again, how can I know?? Thanks

Apart from blacklighting the piece, some good research into the design details and period materialMy question is, how can one know for sure what he is buying if it is fake or real?

are obviously a help. I know there are a few reference books that show at least some original sport
insignia patterns, but of those I have seen, the authors did not go into details about them except to caption
the pictures.
Perhaps more members of the forum who own authentic patches or other period items, could
post photos and/or further commentary about the original designs - to help us to identify unique characteristics
that distinguish them from the modern knock-offs/ fakes.

Re: Sport Uniforms In Wear
I have a quick question about the KM sport shirt. Was the insignia blue in color, or black? I saw a repro online that purported to be KM style and its color was almost a royal blue. Is this accurate? (Also, can anyone identify the sword-and-shield insignia posted above?)
Thanks.
Thanks.
