I found photos of two Knight’s Cross holders of Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 98 of the 1. Gebirgs-Division wearing what looks like SS-pattern Totenkopf badges on the left side of the Bergmütze beside the Edelweiss. Does anyone know the history of this practice within Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 98 and/or other elements of the 1. Gebirgs-Division? Thanks for any help!
Best regards,
Shawn

Re: Totenkopf Badge: Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 98
Two more images - one from Caucasus, 1942, and the other from Bosnia, 1943 (both show members of the 1st Mountain Division, not sure about the subunit though). Does anyone know which (Heer) mountain troopers were allowed to wear the Totenkopf and for what reason?
