Luftwaffe Dog Tag

Hi all,

I have this dog tag in my collection, and would love to be able to pin point an actual unit that it belonged to, so I thought
I would try posting it up and see if there was any bites. It is marked 68421 over 510, I would guess that the airman's number is 510, and the unit designation lies in the number, There is no blood group on it at all. I believe this one is not
for a para unit, but possibly flight, any ideas ???

This tag looks a bit too new for my liking. Have you had it long, where did it come from?

Hi Simon,

Yes I have had the tag about 20 years, before that it was with a local collector for quite a while, the reason it looks
a tad new I think is that I took the photo through glass, as it is in a frame. The tag actually does have a bit of
darkening and some pitting on the lower portion of it, which is why I took the photo upside down.

I am no expert on these things, the guy who I picked it up from said it was from a 109 pilot who was shot down during
the Battle of the Bulge, but I think his story was a tad fancifull, but still it would be good to confirm it or put that story
to rest......

Hi,

German air operations during the Ardennes offensive are not exactly noted for their huge part in the outcome of the battle. My initial observations would stand in that it looks too new, no signs of it having been worn.

I had some success with the unit, and many thanks to Hugh Page-Taylor for his help on this one, the page is from one
of Hugh's reference works, hopefully it can be read, but in case it can't, then it states the following:-

68421 was for

2./Erg/Jagd-Gruppe "West"
2./Jagd-Gruppe "West"
2./Jagd-Gruppe "Sud"
3./Jagd-Gruppe "Ost"
6./Erg.J.G. 1
