... looks like a very crude tunic to me

I doubt the white Wolff tunic is in this collection as mentioned above.

So in your considered opinion the tunic Bill Shea is selling is a crude fake ?

Everything SS is 'questionable' it's the SS collectors main defence against the bad guys.

As for the size there were some old, fat Germans before the war, they weren't all the small, thin people we seem to encounter from combat tunics and hats. Look at Göring for e.g.

Right; and Ortlepp was obviously not a skinny person: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Ortlepp

not everything is questionable when you know your stuff and do your homework.
what does make this tunic base a white SS tunic anyhow, could it be as well a WH tunic?
there needs more inspected, like how is the age of the board compared to the tunic, for how long does it sit
there, look for the tabs on this jacket ... what I miss is the patina rain for the complete jacket with
all it's insignias ... compare it with known original pieces and specifically with white tunics where it is even more
easy to see. compare it with known white untouched tunics how the patina is there visible.

EVERYTHING is guilty untill proven innocent. The only thing 100% completely unequivocally innocent is a flatwire cufftitle ... 'they' haven't got within a country mile of reproducing those yet. Patina differences ... between a white tunic and detachable black insignia ??

Oh and for your info I've been doing my homework on all things SS since I was about 10 years old back in the mid 70's, still learning.

flatwire, original machines survived one is in the US but who knows maybe this will blast the community in 20 years :-)
the only thing this machine did not rumble yet are the costs to start with it.
i don't care if flatwire or bullion or machine, all original is welcome for it's right price

Now many years ago ... possibly around 1990 ... I heard a rumour that a Jacquard loom was found in the former East Germany (complete with BeVo volunteer shield punch cards) and that it had been taken to Texas.

I notice for the SS white dress, there are several differences of utilising the white tunic.

Are they different model, different function, or different regulation?

regarding the wear of:
- white / black / field-grey visor cap
- sleeve eagle / swastika armband
- white / black / field-grey breeches / trousers
- shoulder boards (normal type / Allgemeine-SS type)

I've attached a picture:
- left : white cap - white trousers/breeches?? - sleeve eagle - sb left and right
- center : field-gray cap?? - field-gray trousers/breeches?? - sleeve eagle - sb left and right
- right: black trousers/breeches - armband - right sb

Cheers,
edpin

The SS summer uniform was officially introduced in 1939 and discontinued a year later, but was, in fact, worn both before and after that period. Officially, the white tunic could be worn between April 1 and September 30 with black breeches or black/white trousers, and either a black- or white-topped visor cap, but other combinations existed in the Waffen-SS. The insignia was identical to that worn on the black/grey tunic.

This is M-32 white uniform with combination of trousers to M-38 uniform. M-38 uniform had also its precise version of summer tunic, however variation of M-32 usage without arm swastika band existed as well.

That man is SS-Hauptsturmführer Wolfgang Wolfram von Wolmar, press coordinator in Bohemia-Moravia.
