Collar patch of the mullah

#1

Post by Arto O » 02 Feb 2014, 21:03

A photo of a mullah or iman from Ostturkischer Waffen-Verband der SS, sent by ttvon, in the topic/thread about Harun el Raschid-Hintersatz, AHF:
He is wearing shoulder boards of Untersturmfuhrer, SS runes, and left hand collar patch with three pips, one touching his chin. But there seems to be something next to the lowest pip. A reflection of something or what?
any info, thanks

Hi at6,
I agree with you. Could it looked like this. The lowest pip would be the star and the mullah added the crescent. His personal touch to his uniform.

It does appear to be what you say, something I've never seen before or seen provision in the regulations for either.

Ian.

Thanks Didier and Ian,
for your posts. It is curious how reading books (70s up to 90s) we/I always learned that (generally speaking) no eastern volunteers wore SS uniforms but it wasn´t so. Luckily new material is still coming out. Somebody in the forum already sent some pictures about the same newsreel, asking the name of the mullah or iman, but also without a result. Very interesting pictures indeed.

Thank you for the post , very interesting . I was always led to believe that , although non German SS units existed , of course , personnel were not allowed to wear the Sieg runes , as they were not considered full members of the SS .

It is also interesting to see an SS Imam with non SS Muslim volunteers .

Thanks Marcus and Halle,
as I had made mistakes writing the links previously, I just write the title of the topic: "Who is this Turkestanis?" sent by Ninoo. Easy to find using the search bottom. The same man I suppose but in different newsreel.

Matthias,

thank you very much for your photo, probably a still shot from another film documentary, are you able to
name the film / Wochenschau in detail ?

Thank you again!
