Question regarding the Waffen SS uniforms. While visiting home on a leave, what did they wear? I've seen several studio photos with mixture of headgear, dress, with and without a tie, so this has left me a bit confused.
Background: I'm working on a graphic novel that has a scene set in occupied Belgium and features a distinguished officer (belonging to Wallonian unit of the Waffen SS), who is on leave visiting his family.
What would his uniform look like, or at least which dress was worn on leave (so I can try to browse the Internet some more)?
Waffen SS officer on leave
Re: Waffen SS officer on leave
He must wear his Waffen-SS service-dress uniform, with closed collar, a "Wallonie" patch on left arm, and ussually * a peaked cap
Remember that was in June 1943, when the Walloon Legion officially joins the Waffen SS, previously they were incorporated into
German Army, and wore their insignia.
* An officers' M43 field cap could be worn too.
