Help me please

#1

Post by robertofabbri » 28 Sep 2017, 10:58

I only have this picture of my father, Enrico Fabbri born in Genova in 1901, he left Italy just after the WWII and I never heard from him again. I know he was a Fascist, apparently he participated at the Marcia su Roma; I also know he has fought in Abyssinia, Ethiopia and Albania.
Possibly some member could help me to found out what was his military status from his uniform ?
Thank you.

I would say, It's an officer ( Lieutenant ) of M V S N ( Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale )
Commonly they were called "Blackshirts".

The devices on his shoulder boards indicate he's actually a member of the "Gruppi Universitari Fascisti"(G.U.F.). As an officer, he most likely was a teacher/instructor/ or specialist.... the arm badge is for "Arditi" (Assault Troops) who were the early fascist enforcers.... and he is wearing the "March on Rome" ribbon, along with other WW1 & WW2 era medals.... rank could be "one higher" than Lieut., hard to see the braid on his cuff clearly.

No, not GUF ( shoulders are blue with gold fascio) but " Milizia Universitaria"-University Militia a special deparment of Militia formated only by university students. Rank is a Junior officier ( senior officiers have a gold piping on the shoulder straps)mos likley "Centurione"-Capitain . He was iscrit to Fascist party before 28/X/1922, so he was a "squadrista" , a title of Honor signalated on uniform by a red piping on cuffs( is visibile under the ranks) and by red enamel fascios on the collar tabs instae of ordinary gola fascios.
He was higly decorated: the ribbon at the top is for a bronze medal of valour( third high decoration in Italy). In second row at last 2 Militay valour crosses, in third row the Marce to Rome medal, in forth row( with metallica gladius badge)the capain of 1936 in East africa , from Somaliland( where fought the btg of University Militia" Curtatone e Montanara").
