HELP to identify this uniform

#1

Post by StephanieKJ » 11 Nov 2017, 20:26

Could somebody please give me some information on the uniform in this photo. I was told it is of my grandfather as a little boy in Germany, so it would be pre-WW2. I can't find a similar visor in a Google search and don't even know if it IS German, or just a boy playing dress-up. I believe this may be around Hamburg. Thank you in advance. S.

Welcome to AHF.
Yes, seems a Imperial German Officer Schirmmütze (visor cap) of WWI, but the jacket doesn't looks like a military tunic.
The dog it's a Dachshund...

Thank you! I was confused by the fact that there isn't a second button at the top of the hat...or the piping at the top. Would this make a difference?

Strangely the dog isn´t heavy enough to turn over the the short leeged table? And there is no doubt either that the boy is customised or does anyone expect kids of his age to drink liquor and smoke a pipe. And as von Thoma explained is the sports jacket/coat a civil piece of clothing.

Hello there

I think there are two "buttons"...
top one is less visible because
little head can't fill out and expand
top part of cap. See dark roundish
shadow above lower button.

I was raised on Schnapps and now run a dog walking company. I must have inherited both loves from my grandfather! (He grew up to build airplanes but died young from a blow to the head...long, sad story)
