Difference between the embroidered and woolen insignia

#1

Post by Pointless2Play » 19 Dec 2018, 00:39

Hello,

I was recently asking myself when an officer would have embroidered insignia? And would that always be in sync, as in does an embroidered breast eagle also mean embroidered cap insignia and the other way around? And what insignia would a heer Leutnant from the 60th infantry regiment around 1943 wear?

Much obliged,

Finn S.

An army officer would normally wear a hand embroidered bullion breast eagle or a machine embroidered silver wire version, sometimes they wore EM types in the field. They normally wore metal hat emblems but could wear bullion versions of they chose.

An Army officer circa 1945 would wear whatever style he wanted, assuming supplies were available. Late war made sessions of metal hat insignia tended to be zink, so had a grey finish, not silver as the earlier versions.

PS. Versions not sessions!
