unknown WW1 insignia

Anyone know these insignia?

These were found among keepsakes from my wife's grandfather's WW1 memorabilia.
He was a Private, 305th Engineers, 80th Division.

The stitching and backing seem more modern that that era, but I cannot find any reference.

Thanks for the help!

Best regards,

No idear what these patches are for.... certainly NOT WW 1 vintage, more 1940s/50s from the look of them. Could be some sort of air school or gas station attendant's patch, or whatever...but not military AFAIK. Probably won't be easy to identify.... but I'd try the US Military forum.... good luck.

Thanks, John - much appreciated!

I doubted their WWI origin as well, simply from the stitching, but they were mixed in with other patches, documents, and souvenirs from his WWI service.

I'll follow up on your advice.
