And is it private purchase item or government issued item?

Value would be on the low side due to the condition of the insignia. I'd say in the $200.00 to $300.00 range. Cal appears to be an issue version, of which there were many makers and variations. The black piping on the front is for Pioneers (enginers).

The M38 officers overseas cap is worth between $600.00 to $1000.00 dealer retail. All officers clothing, etc. we're private purchase, though much came thru army supply systems.
Appears to be a nice example without branch piping.
