Italian Blackshirt uniform
Italian Blackshirt uniform
Hi - This is a photo of my wife's grandfather. He served in the 215th Legione CC NN and was killed in 1936. Is anyone able to tell me if his helmet badges indicate anything? Like rank etc.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Italian Blackshirt uniform
Sadly nothing more than we already know. He is wearing the typical uniforme coloniale of the period. The fasces confirms he is CC.NN. Rank would be worn on the sleeves (cuff or arms). The fregio on the casco is unreadable. The other objective you have highlighted is a pair of googles that is normally worn in that location.

Re: Italian Blackshirt uniform
Many thanks again Jeff. I never would have guessed about the goggles - that's a great piece of information.
Re: Italian Blackshirt uniform
Jeff, the casco in photo is not tipical , but late WWII with badge painted ( I konw it very well, it' s mine!). In 1936 campaign the badge was in Yellow metal. . In this case I desume are a 2 crossed gladios with a fascio with a tablet in roman style( that appare in original photo)with unit number.

I was trying to find a picture of the googles on the side of helmet from Roma to see. I used the one above from U&A 186. It is a very nice casco.

Yes , i wrote this article on "Uniformi e Armi", basated on my collection.
This is only one of many kinds of googles in use.

Re: Italian Blackshirt uniform
Have any of you seen the badge on my helmet before? Just trying to find out if there's any other significance. It seems quite modest to others I've seen.
Thanks.
Thanks.
