Re: Italian WW2 AOI Badge???
I can't offer much. From the little research I was able to do, it appears legit. As for what it represents, I have no idea. The Italians produced many commemorative and private organization medals and pins that knowing which are 'official' is a challenge (as I believe you already understand). It doesn't look like any R.E. pin I have seen, but I am sure I haven't seen them all.
I would guess colonial office or a political pin, but that is only a guess.
Pista! Jeff

Re: Italian WW2 AOI Badge???
Could it be as Jeff said colonial, making it the “Africa Orientale Italiana”?

Re: Italian WW2 AOI Badge???
It is certainly Africa Orientale Italiana (A.O.I.).
What I don't know is whether it was a pin struck for the Colonial Office for some purpose, or whether it is a party/group/association pin struck for some organization in/involved with the A.O.I.
As it lacks a number or some other designation, I feel it is unlikely to be an unauthorized commemorative military pin. It also lacks any insignia indicating an authorized party affiliation (PNF, OND, etc.). Stefano Johnson made pins/medals for a wide range of organizations, including religious and social groups.
Nothing I have stated above is hard and fast. I have learned over time that nothing involving Italy is simple and straightforward. The color scheme and the eagle point to a political or nationalistic raison d'être for this pin. But that is speculation.

It is a badge per indigenous noble.
There wherw 8 ranks: the n. 1 was Ras or Sultan( like a prince), n. 8 was viilage chief. This one was n. 4.
