Thats sad to hear. I happily did not purchase. Found it among a few things in the attic. Was it from different pieces and all mismatched together or just all fabricated?

The medal itself comes from a rather large family of the so-called 'shooting medals' (Schutzenorden). This one was made by Ortlepp & Schrieber, a company started in the late 1800's that still exists today. It's center motif has been changed from that of a Schutzenkonig (Shooting King, referring to the male winner of a shooting competition) to that of an obvious forgery that is SS themed to increase its value.
This cross/medal is still produced today by the same firm so it is quite possible that it does date from 30's or 40's of the last century, just like it is possible it was produced in 2010.
Be that as it may, its value has been mostly destroyed by the false addition of bogus engraving/hardware.

Thank you for all the information, it is greatly appreciated. There were also a few bayonets with it and was wondering if you could let me know if they also are fake/ acid etched if possible?

I am not a dagger / bayonet collector, but even I can see that the age, wear & patina in no way match the very new looking etching on those pieces & as you stated ruined bayonets.... but possibly a nice payday for the person who did that. There are people who live to separate collectors from their hard earned money by humping up pieces (also some dealers as well).
