Help with uniform details

Post by Kiefer286 » 03 Sep 2019 02:43

Hello. I’m interested in learning more about my Opas time spent as a sergeant in the Wermacht. I’m interested in any additional info that can be gathered from his uniform. I believe from my research that the eagle looking over it’s shoulder to the left is a symbol of party affiliation. I also believe that the badge on his left pocket is a Third Reich sports badge. Are these assumptions correct and what else if anything can be learned from this picture. I would greatly appreciate any help given.

The eagle is an “armed forces national insignia”. All soldiers wore one. SS wore threres on the left upper arm.
The badge on his pocket does look like a sports badge.
The ribbon through the button hole could be that of a “war merit cross”

Piping on cap and collar bars looks darker than white, so probably not infantry. Besides that and as you said a sergeant I can’t say more based on the photo.
