Labour or POW uniform made from grain sack???

#1

Post by THEDANGLER » 02 Apr 2020, 21:57

Good day gentlemen, hope everyone is safe and well in this strange new world.
Not my area of expertise at all so was hoping some of you more learned than myself may have come across something similar to this in your travels.
Apparently bought years ago from Czechoslovakia. Could it be a POW uniform?...or a labour camp uniform?...or maybe just something tailored out of necessity in post war Europe using whatever materials were at hand.
Any wisdom on this one would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Bill.

Post war article of clothing using what ever could be found. In this case used Hewrman Army burlap sack used for grain, condiments etc. Another common piece of cloth used for everything were flags, the white rondel would be removed, the cloth body was used for clothes , to bed sheets to house curtains, everything. Called*** recycling***

There is an antique mall here in Cl;eveland that in one of the booths a lady has 2 old wood chairs that someone upholstered the seats with these old WW2 German sacks. the set looks cool, buit she has them way overpriced so they sit gathering dust

Thanks for the reply Mark.
Ya..I thought that was an option.
Not an expert on POW uniforms wanted to make sure.
If it was prisoner related the asking price was fair.
As a post war curiosity it cuts the value significantly in my opinion.
I think this could still be interesting displayed with one of the supply sacks that I have...but at about half the price.

I'd buy it if the price was under a hundred bucks( way under, maybe) you just never know who used it ,when or why, might be a POW blouse, or a farm workewr needing a shirt,

Thanks very much for weighing in William.
I liked it enough to pick it up.
Although not POW I thought it was unique and interesting and would display well with some supply sacks. Seller was really good and dropped the price WAY down. Can always count on this forum when I'm stumped on something.
