Hello all

Im currently looking at a helmet of m42 variation that lot numbers match up and look good but their is a hole (not big) but def looks precision drilled... did german soldiers do this to maybe carry their helmet by a string or something?

It's pea sized

Drilled holes were done to ease carry use on trasport, tanks, armoured cars eyc where outside storage had to be done, not common but was done

A helmet guy on another site told me this lid might be Austrian Armed Forces used, post war, as then he posted pics of these with attachments in the back of the lids , to use to strap the helmet down with straps to storage and vehicles, his pic shows 2 rivet holes but yours might have used 1 hole set up.I have no idea.. I have a M-1 clone with the same attachment, and was told it was Austrian
