Real or fake and what is it worth?

#1

Post by Bucky1775 » 04 Oct 2021, 13:55

I’ve had two people tell me it’s real and one tell me it’s fake (all collectors) I need to know because if it’s real it needs to be rehomed to someone who will appreciate it since all it does now is sit in a tote. The most I can figure is it’s a waffen ss officer cap. Please help!

That's a good question, are the pictures from your collection, or copied in from the internet here into the forum ?

The fine leather "Schweißband" / "sweatband" of presumably Pigskin of the peaked cap seems original, about the inscription in presumably ink, I have so my doubts.

The exorbitant dealer and collector prices for such a (original...) headgear of the Waffen-SS are known to you, I presume.
Personally, I would buy such a peaked cap only from a private estate, with a history.

This is still possible here in Germany, although rare.

I can not find reasons to say that it is a fake visor cap, however the eagle and skull may be questionable.

I got it from my grandparents with a whole box of other things that were authenticated as well as real civil war discharge papers. I have searched all over the web and cannot find the value of this cap.

Here some examples of ("original") SS headgear.

Allgemeine-SS, Waffen-SS, SS-Verfügungstruppe

* I expressly point out, that I have no private or business relationship with the Weitze company.

P.S. I collect scrap paper, ("Altpapier"), photos, posters, flyers, books, and whatever comes my way.
For such appreciation you should turn to a real expert, as far as I know, unfortunately, these experts do not exist here in this forum.

An SS officer visor cap with an Overhoff M1/24 skull pattern for comparison...

Any thoughts on these 3 hats. Real or fake? All 3 passed a black light test. The M-43 looks good and has the correct construction look and wear for me but the stamps make me Leary.
The camo hat is I stamped but it has the right feel construction and look. Would be a little easier if it was patched.
Finally the officers cap. Piper ng is right and all looks good but when I saw the SS eagle I was like nope. However before I could say it the current owner said that the person he bought them from said that he had sewed the patch on himself and that he never said he sewed on a repro patch but the current owner believes that’s what he did. Doesn’t seem to have enough detail to me. I believe this one was stamped at one time. There is the faint look of perhaps where one once was. Can’t tell for sure though. The red liner has heavy wear, dirt, and sweat markings on it. Looks as though it has been worn a good good amount.

I’d love to hear thoughts from fellow collectors & if you guys think I should buy any or all also what price ranges you think they would be in. Due to some not have markings, unpatched, possible repro patched, etc I’m not sure what the value would be or what I would offer if th why are real and I go for them.

Thanks in advance for any and all help. Also there are several pics so it will probably be 2 seperate posts

Hello Cabin8730:

I'm sorry, but none of those field caps seem good to me for Wehrmacht/Heer, or Waffen-SS service.
