Hi there!
Does anyone know if the SS national emblem, the eagle and swastika, were metal on all officers caps when the uniforms were taken in use by the respective officers? Is this maybee something that they bought themselves... as I recall, not all Heer eagles were metal, but silver thread on issue caps... Does anyone know if this is right or wrong?
Have a nice day everyone!
Dustin
Metal or cloth SS-eagle
Yes, I think they were issued with different eagles. It would be strange if they were issued incomplete, wouldn't it? But you could order a cap (and any other piece of uniform) you liked for your own money.
In my small Waffen-SS photo archive nearly all SS men are wearing a metal eagle. I guess an embroidered one was more expensive, so it was worn mostly by generals. Sepp Dietrich, for example, always wore an embroidered eagle. I even think all caps were issued with metal eagles, and then you could order an embroidered one.
