Hello everyone!
I stumbled across this item and was thinking about purchasing it. However upon closer inspection, something seemed off. The material looks to be either too new or that it’s a totally different material than normal. What confuses me is that the inside looks old, it’s just the outside that looks odd. On top of that the buttons look very new and the rank badges look kinda off to me, especially the way they’re attached to the collar. I am a beginner so I’m not too sure if there’s actually something amiss or I’m just being too skeptical.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Japanese Tunic Real?
Hello Xander Chia ;
I agree
Japanese militaria is not my strong area, but by some reasons ( no japanese markings, cloth, sewing, general state )
it look like a modern repro of a Japanese winter tunic type 98, perhaps for reenactment purposes.

Re: Japanese Tunic Real?
Thanks for the reply von thoma!
It is not my strong area as well but from the handful of examples I’ve seen online, they don’t have manufacturer tags but instead an ink stamp. This piece does have that but I did not include in my original post as I wanted opinions on the item itself without considering markings.

In this case I was wrong, it is an original Japanese winter tunic, as well as the patches seemed to me good ones.This piece does have that but I did not include in my original post as I wanted opinions on the item itself without considering markings.
Practically new, hardly used.
