Does an Army NCO parade tunic with clip for dagger hanger have to have a slot in tunic for the straps or would dagger extend below edge of tunic ?

The Dagger hanger could be in two places, Army usually had a slot for which a strap with the D ring would extend through. Some SS and some others used a strap with a D ring sewn into the flap, underneath, which then did not require a slot for the strap. I have seen some Army Greatcoats that also used just a sewn strap under the flap, but most of the time, you see the slot cut into the material, for the strap to pass through. Even though there were "proper" ways to do it with the slot, you will always find another tunic that does not conform to the norm. Depending on the length and cut of a tunic, a Dagger could hang below the edge, and sometimes hang up above th edge, all depending on the cut of the skirt. Also, the length of the strap for the D ring, would sometimes place the dagger lower than others.
