I recently read that officers of the Wehrmacht and SS wore spurs as a part of their official uniform once they attained a certain rank.
Can anyone answer the following:
1) Is this true?
2) What rank did one have to attain to wear spurs?
3) Was this official policy or simply a custom?
4) What variety of spurs were worn?
Thanks
Spurs worn as uniform.

I think any officer who was wearing the Reithose and Reit Stiefel could wear--or should I say 'affect' spurs. There is a general German army 'issue' pattern spur and you see photos of officers of all ranks and branches wearing them, but only on rare occasion. I doubt very many officers really wanted to fool with them.
There are even photos of Der Dicke (Herman Goering) wearing them--can you imagine the horse that he rides?
