When exactly did German armed forces began to use camouflaged uniforms and who was first to use it – W-SS or the Army?

If memory serves me here, the SS had it first, or first to use it in large quanitys, or on a large scale. The army had the camo zeltbahns, pre-war, but did not believe in it the way the SS did, so gave it little attention till mid-war. There is extensive research on SS camo in Beavers book on SS camo, with all dates of introduction on SS stuff. Army Camo was not issued in large quanties even during the war as was the SS camo.

I have only posted this knowing the article is particularly informative from someone who knows what they are talking about and in the interest of sharing knowlege. :idea:

Basically though, the SS started to develop camo uniform patterns as early as 1935...! I myself am always fascinated with their advanced ideas on this subject and the number of variants produced.
