infantry with panzer jackets

#1

Post by Gott » 05 Aug 2002, 22:28

hi i bought a black SS panzer jacket with white piping on the shoulder boards, indicating that it is infantry. I bought it for 70 bucks from my uncle which said he bought it 20-something years ago from the sunday street market from a SS veteran. im not sure if the panzer jacket is suppose to have infantry shoulder boards... i need help.

My question is, were there any SS infantry soldiers wearing black (not field gray) panzer type jackets?

what i meant would be 100% infantry (with no association with tanks)wearing panzer type jackets. would there be any SS infantry officers wearing panzer jackets? for example, Michael Wittmann wore a EM's cap instead of an officer's cap.

i heard in late war, some SS infantry did wear panzer type jackets

I have never seen any photographic evidence of SS panzer uniforms being worn by infantry.

Panzer Lehr was supposed to wear the field grey assault gun wrap, but I've also never seen or heard of SS infantry wearing black panzer wraps. Maybe it was field expedient?

Tank and assault gun crews who had to abandon their vehicles due to mechanical break down often had to fight as infantry, sometimes fighting their way back to friendly lines. I haven't seen any photos of this scenario but it makes sense. The reed green or feldgrau wraps seem to have been fairly common amongst Pz grenadiers, especially in the closing stages of the war.

Actually was the other way round. Field grey panzer wrapper is more rare
than black panzer wrapper . As many panzer assault gunner end up using
black wrapper during the late war . Thus, it is hard to find a real field grey
panzer wrapper in the market.
In fact, no many people seen an 100% original feld grey wrapper.

see the book Men-At-ARM Series 24:panzer division.
