Post by Wilfried Abenaschon » 15 Aug 2002, 19:49

Hi !
I never appear here ; but this time, I think it's the best forum to know what were the insignias of Raeder as a generaladmiral in 1936 ?
What was the signification of this rank ? I know that for the russian imperial navy, it was the same as Feldmarschall... Can anybody enlighten us ?

Raeder wore the standard Naval shoulderboards for his rank, of GrossAdmiral, or, GrandAdmiral. It was the same rank style as the Army GFM, he wore the Generals boards, with darkblue or smetimes a blackish underlay, with sliver/gold twist cord tops, and the GFM Batons crossed over eachother on the board. No collar tab was worn for this rank in the Navy.

Promoted to Generaladmiral on the 20th of April 1936 he wore as a Generaladmiral in the position of commander-in-chief of the navy the shoulder boards with three rank stars similar to an army Generaloberst and on the cuff 1 large and four narrower cuff stripes. Officers promoted to Generaladmiral after Raeder wore the 3 star shoulder boards and 1 large and three narrower cuff stripes.
