Staff Col. Suleyman Fethi Bey (Istanbul 1877- Izmir May 15th 1919)
Army serial number: P.1312(1896)-10.
His father was sheich Izzi Efendi the master of a Kaadiri Tekke in Salkimsogut /Istanbul.
In 1899 he graduated Military Academy as Staff officer. His first duty was at Hicaz. later He was made assistant Advisor to War Miniter in 1912. He was promodet to Colonel in 1914.
In WW1 he served in East Front as commander of 48th Inf. Div. at the order of 4th Army Corps of the 2nd Army. In 1917 he commanded the 47th Inf. Div. because the 48th was forwarded to Syrian Front on June 16th 1917. During that fights he was wounded and sended to Wiesbaden for treathment.After he return to home he was sick for that reason he was made the president of Military recruitment Department in Izmir.
The Greeks invated Izmir on May 15th 1919. They immediately took all Turkish officers prisoner. They forced them to yell "Zito Venizalos" Zito Hellas" Col. Suleyman Fethi Bey refused to yell. He was bayoneted by civilized and proud greek soldiers 12 times. He died because of wounds.
Less we forget. May his grave be in light.
