Re: Turkish officers with iron crosses
An unidentified Turkish Officer, He is a Circassian. He is wearing a Circassian dolch. He must be an officer of Caucassus Army.
He is not unknown. He is a Mehmetcik, the dear Turkish soldier.
My distinquished friend Haluk Oral who is a real searcher of WW1 Turkish history says that the dolch is not circassian dolch but a dolch called Enveriye. Enveriye means" belongs to or created by someone called Enver". it is possible that it is created by Enver Pasha?
On the other hand My dear friend Mahmud Hakkı Sevgener read the dedication on the photo for us:
"To My Dear Older Brother Arif
610.34 ( October 1918)"

Re: Turkish officers with iron crosses
It was in the corner of the ground floor room that held the cabinets and racks of rifles, it was patrolled by guardians armed with sticks to keep our hands off the rifles.
It was extremely interesting in it's old form and had probably not changed since pre war times, hence the display of Iron Cross Holders
Regards
David

Re: Turkish officers with iron crosses
Tosan,
Indeed so, the officer's dagger in the photograph was indeed designed, or was ordered to be designed by Enver Pasha.
It is based on a 15th or 16th century dagger displayed in Topkapi.
The blade is numbered and inscribed in Farsi script
Kind regards
