In early hours of the morning of April 25th 1915 the enemy began landing on 5 different beaches under the heavy bombadement of their navy. Only a battalion was defending the shore. The enemy landed in first stage 8 battalions. The Turkish battalion which was defending the 4 beaches was 3rd battalion of the 26th Inf. Regiment. The enemy could only hold on within 5- 10 meters area. Although the Enemy bombed 4650 shells to the trenches of Turks which where on the hills over the Ertugrul Bay, they could't get rid of the Turks from their positions. By the counter fire of the Turks the coulour of the sea turned into red. In the night of April 25th the Turks charged againts enemy tenched on the 5 beaches together with 25th Regiment. An Enemy brigade which was on Zigindere was forced back. The beach cleared. But Turks couldnt clear the enemy in Teke Burnu, Teke Koyu(Bay), Ertugrul Koyu (Bay), Eskihisarlik. The enemy reinforced their units on the beaches. Therefore up to 13.00 o'clock the hills were taken by the enemy. The Turkish 9th Division which coul't get reinforcements decided to withdrawal some 1,5 kms into the main land. The 20th Regiment joined ther the 9th Division late in the night.
In this battle the 3rd battalion of the 26th Regiment fought 32 hours bravely againts a mighty army and navy. They killed 6000 enemy soldiers including 3 brigade commanders.

Lt. Gen.Baki Vandemir

Retired :27.06.1947
Brigadier:1936, Maj. Gen.:1938, Lt. Gen. 1943
During the Balkan Wars specially at the Battlles to gain Catalca, Bolayir and Edirne 2nd Lt. Baki was staff officer at the HQ of 1st Mixed Army Corps of the Gelibolu Army.
2nd. Lt. Baki was staff offficer at the HQ of West Army on Oct.18th 1912-April 14th 1913.
2nd Lt. Baki served at the order of Selanik Redif Divizion.
After Gallipoli Capt. Baki served as chief of staff of the 11th Caucasus Division at the order of 3rd Army.(Winter 1916-17)
In Feb. 1918 he was made aid officer to the 3rd Army commander major Gen. Vehip Pasha (Kaci).
Capt. Baki took part in the expetition force towards Northen Caucasus-Azerbayjan and Iran in Summer 1918 as Staff officer at Eastern Army.
At the Nablus battle Sept. 19/21 1918 and withdrawal to Haleppo Sep.22-Oct. 25 1918 he served at 8th Arm HQ.
During the war of Independance Major Baki was Chief Information Staff officer of the Western Front in June-Oct. 1920-1921.
During Sakarya battle (August23-Sept. 13 1921 he was chief of staff of the 5th Cavalry Group.

Lt. Ekrem Ruestue (Akoemer) (1882-1984
Between the years 1930-36 he was the Secratary General of the Turkish National Olympic Cometee.
As von Sanders made commander of the Yildirim Army Group on March 1st 1918 2nd Lt. Ekrem Rustu his aid officer was with him.

Major Kemal Bey from Ohri ( Ohrili Kemal Bey) the commander of operations group of the 3rd Army Corps. He was a staff officer.
His Army serial number is P.1317(1902)-18
date of death: 1957. During the truce of May 24th he was taken to the back of British Lines for talks. Many writers claim that person was Mustafa Kemal.

Lt.Col.Fahrettin Bey, Chief of Staff of the 3rd Army Corps in Gallipoli.
(General of the Army Fahrettin Altay)Borned at Turkish city of Iskodra/Albania 1880- Ankara, Oct 26th 1974
Army serial number: Sv.(Cavalry)1315(1900)-P.1
Lt.Col in 1914, Col in 1915, Major General in Sept. 12th 1921. He commanded the famous 5th Cavalry Army Corps during the War of Independance. Sept.12th 1922 Lt. Gen., in 1926 he was made General of the Army. He retired Jult 15th 1945.
He entered into politics amd made a MP.
