Tosun,

Mate in the talk we had on the battle at Magdhaba on the 28th Dec 1916 where the 80th Regt was destroyed.

We couldn't find the commander of the 80th Regt.

I did see that Major Refet commanded the Regt in early 1916 was he still in command in Dec 1916 to be captured by the British?

Cheers

Sorry mate,

I made a mistake here as I did some checking in the records you gave me and found that Major Refat became Col Refet Bey (Bele) commander of the 3rd Div.

Cheers

source: "Birinci..." p. 435 gives the name of the commander of 80th as "General Staff Major Kadri Bey" not as you say "Khadir or as we say "Kadir" according to the archiv document of the Turkish General Staffs War History Department:
As.T.ve Str. E. Bşk.Arş.: 1/217 Dos.311-B s.466 (p.466)
We was taken POW at 15:30 o'clock with his HQ on the first defence point where he commanded the battle.

On the other hand att the beginnning of WW1 Maj. Rıfat was commander of 80th R.
source: Gorgulu p. 138

p.140: 1st Canal Expedition Jan.14-Feb 5 1915
Commander of Right Line : Maj. Rıfat who was also the commander of 80th R.
On Jan. 27th Maj. Refet (Gen. Bele) who was chief information staff officer of the 4th Army was made commander of Right Line and 80th R.

Maj. Rıfat was made commander of 133 rd R. of the 41st Div.
After the Canal Refet (Gen. Bele) was promoted to Lt. Col and made the commander of 23rd Div. at Der'a
During 2nd Canal Exp.Col. Refet (Bele) commanded the 3rd Div.

Mates,

Sorry for this, it was to long on the computer and I made a mistake.

What I meant to find was the Commander of the 31st Infantry Regt at Rafa (TellelRafa) but for some reason got mixed up.

I still haven't found the commander of the 31st Regt so I guess we may never know.

Thanks Tosun I must have mixed these two men's name up Maj Rifet and Maj Refet.

Bill, yes he was, my mistake

Cheers
