Dominic

Thanks! It is another data point. If that OB is correct, the 46th XX was completely changed after leaving Macedonia. Of great interest is the 17th Regiment. IIRC, this regiment was normally used as corps/army reserve in Palestine. I will need to check this again, but I was trying to figure out where the 17th Regiment came from in 1918. This regiment originally was part of the 6th XX. It was moved to the 8th Division in 1916. When it was moved to the 46th XX is unknown by me at this time.

Dominic,

Thats for that, it expanes a lot about the orbat of the 46th and 48th Divs.

I have in March 1918 the 48th Div with the 1-2/17th Regt and 2/24th Regt which now shows where its 3/17th Regt went into the 17th Comp Regt of the 46th Div.

What surprised me were the Bn's of Regts of the 25th Div in there.

Mate the strenght of the MGs is shown clearly here with the 17th Comp Regt.

6 Heavy MG per Bn and 6 in the MG Co?

But what about the 144th Regt with 27 HMGs and 6 Light MG's

To add a MG Company to each active Turkish Infantry Bn must have took some movement around the place.

189th MG Co from 61st Div (Garrison on Gallipoli.)
139th MG Co from 41st Div (Alexandretta garrision)
73rd MG Co from 62nd Div (Palestine 1918)
75th MG Co from 62nd Div (Palestine 1918)

179th MG Co from 59th Div (disbanded)

These we can see how its done but could not have been done to all Bn's as there are just not enough MG Co's to cover them.

But numbers in these British reports always give what they think the Turks should have not what they may have, I see that by the numbers as they reflect the same numbers as per a British Bn.

As to the 17th Regt I have the change from the 6th to 8th Div in Jan 1917 but I have the arrival on the 1-2/17th Regt in the 48th Div around March 1918 so the 3/17th Regt must have arrived around the same time?.

Cheers

S.B.

Many question, not as many answers.

RE: 17th III. I believe the transfer of the 17th IIII from the 6th to the 8th XX happened between Jan-March 1916. The 17th III was still part of the 6th XX in August 1915. The 17th III was part of the 8th XX when it was transferred to the 2nd XXXX in the Caucasus (leaving Istanbul in March 1916). The likely time therefore would be during the reorganization of the Ottoman units after Çanakkale. I need to check V Cilt 3 kitap of the OH to see if I can refine the date.
