Tosun,

I was checking this out and I found no mention of his command of the 9th Div at Gallipoli 1915?

the other site has this

Turkeyswar.com / © Altay Atlı / this page is last updated on June 26, 2006

Cemil Bey (Conk) 36th Regt 1914/15 LtCol

Cemil Bey (Conk) 4th Div 1914/16 LtCol (dates unconfirmed)?
Cemil Bey (Conk) 41st Div 1916/17 Col
Cemil Bey (Conk) 54th Div 1917/18 Col

After his wounding WIA 24-6-15 with the 36th Regt, his name shows up as commander 4th Div, but the dates for his command are not shown, but he is shown as the first commander of that Division possibly from 1914?

Also his command dates with the 41st and 54th Div's in Palestine are uncertain?

Any ideas

Cheers

S.B

I made a misteke by writing "He commanded the 9th Div. at Chunk Bair (Conk Bayir) at gallipoli. " He commande the Div only one day. as Col. Kannenkiesser was wounded on August 8th. On August 9th german Lt. Col.Pötrich made C of Div.

Tosun,

I was wondering if he was related to Mehmet Husnu or Hulusi (Conk).

Who did such good service during the Great war and War of Independance

NOt eelatives Steve but fought on the same hill the Conk. After the new urkish civil reforms by Atatürk people all got a famili name. Most of the old soldiers got the place where they fought during WW1 or War of Independance as famili name e.g. Ismet Pasha got Inönü.
Halil Pasha got Kut.
