Correction to this Plate 45: Which illustrates medical officers in the 1905-08. This 1905 Austrian publication shows the medical officer with shoulder boards, displaying the same embroidered 'snake & branch' as supposed to be on the collars for the period (1876-1908). So this may be a later (1905-08) variation. As other aspects of the uniform have also been simplified, as the 1876 uniforms were highly elaborate, and expensively embroidered. It appears by the turn of the century began to get plainer, with simplified insignia etc. being used.

This is a new Plate 57: These are illustrated from Nicolle's Ottoman Army, picturing the Afghan Prince (1917), wearing an Ottoman General's uniform; the Kurdish irregular (which in the Nicolle's illustration wears a grey Army coat, however typically the issue greatcoat was field brown, and the outdated earlier pattern (1876-1908), was dark blue - which is the version I have chosen for this figure). Finally, the unique - Mevlevi volunteers with their high dervish camel hair fez, and green turban wraps.

This is a new plate looking at the uniforms 1840-50, as well the typical paint scheme for Ottoman guns:
The large 'half-moon' shoulder boards seem to have only been used for a few years, and were then replaced by large brass shoulder-scales - following European military fashions (which by the Crimean war had fallen out of use).

I have done some more work on the field gun - This is based on the image below:ukturkcollector wrote:This is a new plate looking at the uniforms 1840-50, as well the typical paint scheme for Ottoman guns:

New next set in the Plate 1 series, covers uniform development in Egypt - with the 1800 -1830 era these developed from Ottoman uniforms:

This new Plate looks at early 'New/Modern Army' Foot and Garrison Artillery, and the great Gun of Selim III taken as a prize. This is a Turkish bronze cannon cast 1790-91 in the reign of Ottoman Sultan Selim III, it weighs 5.2 tonnes and fired stone shot of over 56 kilos. It was captured by Admiral Sir John Duckworth from Kinali Island in the Sea of Marmara in 1807 and presented to the Royal Naval Asylum by the Duke of Cumberland. A gun this size, while imposing had a very poor performance (with a low range), compared to the Royal Navy ordinance, used at the time.

But i am not sure about greatcoat being field brown.ukturkcollector wrote: the Kurdish irregular (which in the Nicolle's illustration wears a grey Army coat, however typically the issue greatcoat was field brown, and the outdated earlier pattern (1876-1908), was dark blue - which is the version I have chosen for this figure)..

The 1911 Italian manual shows the grey pattern, that was used along side blue greatcoats from 1876. However, the more normal wartime issue cloth was grey/brown, to light brown. See below examples.patates wrote:But i am not sure about greatcoat being field brown.ukturkcollector wrote: the Kurdish irregular (which in the Nicolle's illustration wears a grey Army coat, however typically the issue greatcoat was field brown, and the outdated earlier pattern (1876-1908), was dark blue - which is the version I have chosen for this figure)..
