Mates,

In line with Tigers question about the two other corps, I notice an interesting comment on the 2nd Corps?

From "The Turkey in the First war" webb site

On Çolak Faik Pasa

On August 30, 1916, early in the morning, Faik Paşa ordered his troops to launch a bayonet charge in the vicinity of Oğnut near Bingöl. He was with the men, leading the attack at the front, when he was hit in the head by an enemy bullet and lost his life."

This had me looking at the 2nd Corps and its commanders?

Çolak Faik Pasa shown commander April 1915

Col Nikolai (G) - 1915
Col Cafer Tayyar Bey (Egilmez) 10-15 -
Col Kazim Bey (Karabekir) 9-17?
shown July 1918 Allied reports - Col Nihad Pasha

What was Çolak Faik Pasa commanding to lose his life in that bayonet charge at Oğnut near Bingöl in Aug 1916?

Any ideas

Cheers

- Staff Col.Kazım Bey ( Ltgeneral Karabekir) was made C of 2nd AC on April 4th 1917.

- Fevzi Pasha ( Fieldmarshall Çakmak) C of 2nd Army was made C of 7th Army on Oct 7th 1917 after resign of Mustafa Kemal Pasha. Brigadier Nihat Pasha (Lt.General Anılmış) was made C of 2nd Army.

Tosun,

Many thanks again.

Great that's perfect.

I had wondered why the German Colonel Nikolai had command of the 2nd Corps at Gallipoli

Col Nikolai (G) possibly 8-15 to 10-15 (left 16 Oct 1915)

But he appears to have taken command when Çolak Faik Pasa joined Mustafa Kemal in Anafarta Group around Sept to Dec 1915 (shown in Erickson).

Cheers

Görgülü writes on page 93 Col. Nikolai as C of 2nd AC of the Anafartalar (Suvla) group and continues in a deepnote nr 3 " 2nd AC and 4th Div. was taken fron the front and forwarded to Keşan on Oct. 16th 1915 and in deep note nr 4 " 16th AC took the positons of the 2nd AC."
TS's note: The 2nd AC was taken later to Tekirdağ (Rodosto) from Keşan to be forwarded to Caucasus Front. The 2nd AC prepared for the new miision and finely begun its duty on July 1916 at the order of 2nd Army.
I think Mr. Görgülü made a mistake as seen mostly in his very very voluable book. The deepnotes are correct but Nikolai never commanded tth 2nd AC.
According to my a/m book about Faik Pasha p.33 " Staff Col. Faik Bey commander of Istanbul appoinded to command the 2nd AC to be send to Gallipoli front on Dec. 5th 1914 and took the command of the AC at the same night. After a short time he was promoted to the rank of major general (ferik)

The author is sharing information about the commanders of the 2nd Corps during the First World War and is seeking information on the circumstances surrounding the death of Çolak Faik Pasa. The author provides a quote from a website called "The Turkey in the First War," which describes how Faik Pasa died during a bayonet charge near Bingöl. I really like your posts. Thanks for this useful information bluey
