12th Cavalry depot

Mates,

British Intell reports show that the 12th Cavalry depot unit was at Urfa. It supplied horses and men to the Cavalry Regts in Palestine, given as the 7th Cav Regt 9th Cav Regt and 11th Cav Regt.

These are the sub units of the 2nd Kalfas (Caucasus) Cav Bde then with the 8th Corps near Amman.

The 12th Cavalry depot is shown as having four Sqns each of 300 men

I did have a quick check for where Urfa was and found it was possibly Şanlıurfa Merkez, Urfa, Turkey which looks like was North East of Aleppo.

Along with this unit was a NCO training unit at Erenkeui given as 5 mile east of Haidr pasha. but I could not find where this unit was on any map?

The closest I found was the rail station called Haydarpasa on the east side of Istanbul?

Cheers

Erenköy is a suborb of İstanbul on Asian side. The bagdat rail way passed through Erenköy. Since 10 years no more rail ways in the area.
Railway stations from haydarpaşa to Pendik. Erenköy and Bostancı and Pendik were 3 important stop overs stations of Bagdat line.

Tosun,

Thank you, trying to find old names on modern maps has many problems.

Hope you and your family are OK after the events in the last few weeks.

Cheers

Thanks steve we are well. two fundamentalist islamic groups supported by USA are fighting each other for ruling the state. They come into power because of a wrong woting system. I am sure they both will take their noble place in the cemetary of history. Because we 50 million well educated Kemalist Turks is a great power. We just wait to get rid of them in a domocratic way.
