German officer at Beersheba 1917

Post by stevebecker » 24 Feb 2018 01:00

Mates,

I am after anyone who can confirm this German officer mentioned by Neate?

A mate sent me this

"This is Neate's letter to The Spectator in response to yet another repeat of Meinertzhagen's tale (or lie?)
see http://archive.spectator.co.uk/article/ ... ertzhagens
In it Neate mentions that the contents of the haversack were passed over to a "German intelligence officer at Beersheba, one Leutnant Schilling"

I can find no officer named Schilling in Palestine and with the Ottoman 3rd Corps?

Can you find who he is and any details about him?

Cheers

Of cause the translation from Turkish to English may in part be incorrect but they do show Intell as part of their service.

I was told that this is the correct forum for this belt buckle-I could use some help with this belt buckle, I picked it up last weekend at a garage sale for 20 bucks , at first I thought that it was an Imperial German officer buckle, but it does not have the large “W” and only the crown. The belt is lighter weight and their no belt attachment. Can anyone help me with what type of buckle it is.
