Re: KuK Fieldhospitals in Turkey
In the second half of 1917, kuk mobile field hospitals Nr 202 and Nr 309 under the order of turkish 15th Corps at the Galician Front were brought to Palestine with this corps.
In the spring of 1918, Tull Kerim and Anepta were displaced, where they served until the Nablus disaster. They were in a very difficult situation in the Nablus disaster. On September 19, 1918, when the news of the British assisted the 8th Army front in the twilight, both field hospitals were ordered to retreat. He began to retreat to Chin and Afule. Things went fine in the early hours of retreat. However, in the afternoon they suffered a heavy air raid and lost many personnel and equipment.
One of the very few survivors of this air strike was medical sergeant Josef Schneebaum from mobile field hospital 202, wrote in his memoirs “September 19, The situation becomes difficult. British planes attacked with machine gun fire and bombs. I took refuge behind a rock. From where I was, I could see the damage the planes did. Many men were killed and wounded, the animals were perished. When it got dark, the planes left. So I started to go to Mesudiye. I reached Mesudiye at 9 o'clock at night. I ran into KuK trucks on the way. They took me, took me to Cevin. On September 20, we left for Afule with the same truck. However, the British cavalry had blocked the road. They were about 100 meters away from us and some German and KuK soldiers opened a line of hunters and opened fire. I had to hide because I didn't have a gun. I took shelter under a big chervil. I must have liked what I did so that a Turkish soldier took refuge in my side. From where we were hiding, we could see all our friends taken prisoner. I haven't had any water all day. The slice dried up from thirst and heat. Despite this, I continued on my way. I crossed the hills and reached an Arab village at 4 am on the morning of September 21st. Fellahs gave me water and food.
