North African units?

Mates,

Do you have any details on these units?

From a book

"The Syrian Land: Processes of Integration and Fragmentation : Bilād Al-Shām ..."

Talks about a German unit formed of North African Muslim prisoners called the "Holy Legion"

It was sent to Sultan for use by the Ottomans, but didn't want to work for the turks, only Germans?

He also mentions a Moroccan Bn was sent to Baghdad in May 1916, but appears as unwelcome by the Turks as well as the Germans?

And the "Aginjt Regiment" sent to the Amir of Hejez but was said to be of little value due to poor discipline?

I have not heard of these do you have any details?

Cheers

Hello Steven,

Very interesting theme. Ten years ago I searched in this direction intensive.

Which French Colonial troops have been autumn 1914 in France
viewtopic.php?f=31&t=208453&p=1880098&h ... s#p1880098

Muslim sailors from SS GENERAL on secret mission
viewtopic.php?f=80&t=198092&p=1787565&h ... s#p1787565

In the course of the revolutionizing concept of the German Empire at the beginning of WWI, there were some very
adventurous ideas to use the Holy War against the English and French.

I'll try to pick out more names, file numbers and links.

(If you start with the search words: ``POW `Halbmondlager´ Zossen near Potsdam´´, you will get soma background information,
special about Marrocans in German Services during the GW)

Cheers Holger

Holger,

Thanks mate.

I was aware of Oppenheim along with Mannesmann and Wolff or others in Persia, but not this man?

I also looked but could find little on these units?

Cheers
