Mates,

What do you have on this officer shows in photos of his funeral in Galicia by German and Austrians (Harb Mecmuasi) possibly Issue 16 (Jan-Feb 1917)

Ali Bey (with 15th Corps in Galicia) Maj KIA 1917 in Galica

His name is very common in the Ottoman Army so finding who he is maybe a long shot?

A lot of officers are shown with Ali in their names, but none are shown killed (as far as I can find)

Like

Maj Ali Hayri in Galicia (57th Regt)

All other officers with Ali in thier name each have a family name so lived?

info officer Cav Maj Ali Nuri (Okday)

Lt Ali Riza (Guney)

I did find the Div commander

Col Mehmet Ali Pasa KIA (but I don't have a date for his death?)

I wonder if this is the man?

Any ideas

Maj Ali Hayri in Galicia (57th Regt)
Not Ali Hayri but Mehmet Hayri (Major Gen. Tarhan) P. (Inf) 1317 (1901)-4 class mate of Mustafa Kemal.
majorgen: 1929, retired: 10.12. 1934

Lt Ali Riza (Guney)
There is a 2nd Lt. Hasan Rıza(Guney/ in turkish writing Güney ) the aide-de-corps of 15th AC

WRONG
Maj Ali Hayri in Galicia (57th Regt)
Not Ali Hayri but Mehmet Hayri (Major Gen. Tarhan) P. (Inf) 1317 (1901)-4 class mate of Mustafa Kemal.
majorgen: 1929, retired: 10.12. 1934

CORRECTION
There were 2 Hayri Bey
1- Mehmet Hayri C o S of 15th AC (Major Gen. Tarhan) P. (Inf) 1317 (1901)-4 class mate of Mustafa Kemal.
majorgen: 1929, retired: 10.12. 1934
2-Maj Ali Hayri in Galicia ( C of 57th Regt) The book Birinci Dünya Harbi VII cilt, Avrupa Cepheleri, Birinci Kısım, Galiçya Cephesi dont mention that he was KIA.

Tosun,

Thanks mate yes.

I still can not find who Maj Ali was when killed in Galicia around Jan 1917?

With such a high rank he maybe mentioned in other documents, but I can't find him?

Cheers

Hello,

I'm enclosing entire table of KIA officers of XV.Corps. No mention of Maj.Ali KIA as of January 1917.

Tolga,

Mate thank you for the document, looks good, where did it come from and is there more?

I can only guess but the only mentions a Maj Ali, could he be some other officer around that date?

I can see no officers as Kolağası (Major)

Since the magazine (Harb Mecmuasi) possibly Issue 16 (Jan-Feb 1917), then he must have died some time before that date

possibly 20th Div on your list?

Ali Riza Ismail 62nd Regt - 4Bn Capt KIA 15-9-16 from Cihangir

Since no one comes close to a Major Ali?

Thank you again

Cheers

Hello Steve,

Table is from ATASE's "Birinci Dünya Savaşında Galiçya Cephesi 15.Kolordu Harekatı" which was written by Dr.Hülya Toker. I could say one and only operational history of Galician Campaign so far. It is revised edition of ATASE's campaign history published back in 1960s.

Table contains entire Corps including 19th and 20th divisions. I'll check the issue that you mentioned in Harp Mecmuası and give my feedback.

Best,

Tosun,

Sorry I can't find where the question was asked and the photo given. If I remember right the photo was said to be taken at a funeral in Galecia and believed from the magazine Harb Mecmuasi

The photo was genaric, and could be any one in the East possibly also in Romania, but showed Ottoman and German and Austrian soldiers at a Funeral of an Ottoman officer said to be a Maj Ali

Sorry untill I find where I saw the photo I don't know?
