Nice pics !

By the way Tosun, I know I'm going a little off topic coz' it's pre-WWI, but would you perchance be able to enlighten me on that photo :

He's wearing the Medjidie early small-sized medal :

Look how the fur hat is decorated with star and crescent :

I've shown it to quite a few collectors, and the general consensus is that it should be Ottoman, probably 1860s or early 1870s. Probably some elite cavalry regiment. Would you be able to shed more light ??
(the photo was taken in Frankfurt, which doesn't help much).

Dear Djedj, Really I haven't seen such a photo before. I will ask my Hungarian collages at the Uni. of Budapest. Before that I can make some suggestions:
1-Sultan Mecit or Abdulmecit (Mejid) reigned during the years 1839-1861. He created the medal Mejidiye. In 1848 Hungarians and Poles revolted againts Habsburg joke. Austrians defeated bloodly the Hungarians and Poles with the help of Russians. Many of them executed. many of them under the leadership of Kossuth refugeed to Turkey. many of them such as Polnish General Bem enlisted to Turkish army and made pasha and governor of Damascus. During Cremian War the commander in chief of Turkish army Omer Pasha was one of them who converted to Islam and became Turkish citizen.
That guy on the photo must be one of those Hungarians or Poles.
2-That guy has a mustache and beard a la Napoleon III. That means that the photo was taken in 1867's.
with my best wishes
